Seinfeld or Leno to host American Top Gear?

NBC has indicated they want to have a “celebrity” to host the upcoming Top Gear automotive show, and two names being bantered about are Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno. Frankly I can’t think of anyone more qualified than these two, as they are both gearheads to the bone.
Seinfeld is a well known Porsche lover, and Leno is without doubt one of the world’s great automotive collectors. Leno’s Tonight Show contract ends in 2009, and Seinfeld is probably collecting unemployment checks, so either one could be chosen.
Here’s an idea: why not add Letterman to the mix? He’s another car nut, and while currently fully employed, could handle a gig like this. It would certainly add some spice to the show, as he’s sure to collect a few speeding tickets along the way. I could easily see him and Rupert Jee having fun with the cops that pull them over.
For me, an American Top Gear “dream team” would include all three of these guys?take that Jeremy Clarkson!
Oh, anyone besides me find it ironic that three of the best known car
guys are also first-rate comedians? Not sure what that means…
Here’s Inside Line’s take: American Top Gear To Go “Celebrity Direction”
