Without a doubt, most of today’s new cars come loaded with sophisticated technologies that were the stuff of sci-fi a few decades ago. Technological equipments that were once provided only for high end luxury cars such as navigational systems are now available even in relatively more modest entry-level vehicles. With this abundance of desirable high technology options in many entry-level vehicles, makers of high-end luxury vehicles have to amp up their vehicle’s design, technology and engineering to be able to stand out from the rest.

“>

At last month’s Detroit Auto Show, several new luxury car models were introduced that offer avant-garde technologies that are definitely the newest and most awesome in the industry today. One such automaker is Fisker Coachbuild which limits the production of its cars to just a few hundred to guarantee exclusivity. Engineers at Fisker Coachbuild use state-of-the art materials such as carbon fiber in creating their vehicles. Most Fisker CB cars offer superb horsepower capabilities. Customized vehicles from Fisker CB usually range from $182,000 to $296,000.

Surely, ultra high technology comes at an ultra high price. Revered luxury automakers BMW and Mercedes Benz have a line up of high tech vehicles with cutting edge features. This includes the BMW M6 convertible, which uses Formula 1 technology, has a V10 engine and costs $105,000. Mercedes’ S600 sedan offers a feature straight from the future: it can drive itself in stop-and-go traffic. Thanks to a short range radar that senses the location of nearby vehicles.

“>

All these and more are featured in Forbes Magazine’s list of the top high-tech cars of 2007 – a veritable glimpse into the future.
